Penguin Guide 3 Stars
(this) Volume...of particular worth...the suberb performance of Stanley's Voluntary, Op. 5 No. 8...Jennifer Bate at her very best; nimble fingered, rhythmically compelling, musically astute and choosing ideal tempos and sensible registration. Ornamentation and improvisation are subtly and unobtrusively handled...astute understanding of the style of 18th century English organ music...communicates with total conviction. I particulaly relish the full-bloodied, almost regal quality of the 1786 Avery in the Chapel of St. Michel's Mount, while the tiny bureau organ by Snetzler dating from 1764...seems to whisper so intimately and with such disarming tenderness that it's the nearest I've ever come across to an organ suitable for a bedroom."
